On 19 & 20 October, Matthew Kershaw (Academic Director) and Ainslie O’Connor (Academic Quality Manager) attended the Open University Validation Services annual conference at the Open University in Milton Keynes, UK. This event brings together representatives of all the Open University’s accredited institutions around the world, including from Singapore, France, Greece, Bulgaria, and of course Germany. Following a keynote address by Peter Williams CBE, former Chief Executive of the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, there were presentations and workshops by leading international and British experts on: Benchmarking and Quality Assurance of e-learning, Employer Engagement, Strategic Issues in implementing a Virtual Learning Environment, and Student Feedback. In recognition of the HIB’s experience and high quality standards, Dr Kershaw was invited to give a presentation on how institutions can best prepare for accreditation and validation by the Open University.
The conference was a valuable opportunity to discuss ideas, challenges and developments with colleagues from a wide range of institutions, and to exchange examples of good practice in enhancing the student experience.
