A two-part essay (part 1 / part 2) from the current-affairs online magazine Spiked looking at the parallels between the Great Depression and the current financial crisis, and contrasting reactions then and now. This is not only useful as economic history but also for its explanation of today’s recession in the context of wider economic and political developments. The analysis is a welcome counterpoint to the ‘blame the bankers’ consensus.
