Heidelberg, 25.04.2013. In recognition of the HIM’s high quality standards, Dr. Kershaw (President of the HIM) was invited to give a presentation on quality assurance and enhancement at this year’s Open University’s annual conference for partner institutions, held at the Open University campus in Milton Keynes, UK.

This event brings together representatives of all the Open University’s accredited institutions around the world, including from Singapore, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and of course Germany. Following a keynote address by the Open University’s Vice-Chancellor Martin Bean, there were presentations and workshops by leading international and British experts. The conference was a valuable opportunity to discuss ideas, challenges and developments with colleagues from a wide range of institutions, and to exchange examples of good practice in enhancing the student experience.

The Open University (OU) was established in 1969 and currently offers almost 600 courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Over 250,000 people study with the OU, including more than 20,000 students studying overseas, making it the largest academic institution in the UK by student numbers, and one of the world’s largest universities. OU approval and validation is a stamp of quality that guarantees the international currency of the HIM’s qualifications. OU validated awards have parity of esteem with the awards offered throughout UK higher education. The OU’s validation activity supports the OU’s mission to widen access to higher education. It currently validates over 250 programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to date over 128,000 students have achieved an OU validated award.
