Event Management

Graduate of the Event Management study programme at the HIM

I decided to study at the HIM above all for three reasons: internationality, high practice-orientation and small study groups.

During my studies at the HIM I was not disappointed in any of these three points. As I knew I would like to work in an international environment after graduation, foreign languages and an internationally recognized degree were very important to me in deciding where to study. Especially the fact that the last two semesters at the HIM are completely in English so that you get to know the special terminology in each field in English too, turned out to be extremely helpful in practice after graduation.

Not only working for AHK Chicago but also as Marketing & Sales Manager for Europe with Sutter Medizintechnik GmbH, I was able to benefit from the university’s international orientation. The same thing is true of the wide practice-orientation of the study programme. Especially the tuition in the chosen pathway courses, for example Marketing and Event Management, are very practically orientated. The reason for this on the one hand is tutors who have years of practical experience on the job; on the other hand it is also because of the assignments and projects which are carried out as close to reality as possible.

Marketing plans and event concepts are drawn up in a way also found in big companies or event agencies. Our project team, for example, successfully implemented a newcomer concert in cooperation with the radio station bigFM. It was also possible to put things learnt at the HIM into practice by way of internships in the course of one’s studies. A further point I consider very valuable looking back on things is the subject of “personal development”, which is supported at the HIM among other things with various soft skills training seminars.

For example these included seminars on the subject of rhetoric and presentation techniques, conflict management, time management, etc. Because of the relatively small size of the groups, it was possible not only in the seminars but also in regular everyday courses to pay more individual attention to the students and their questions. All in all I can really recommend studying at the HIM to anyone aiming at an international and practice-orientated study programme.
